Latvia: Your Business Gateway to Europe
A Conversation with Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš

Latvia is the heart of the New Nordics – an innovative country with mission-oriented people who are mindful of the environment and the common good. We are a proud member of the EU, NATO and the OECD, and the No.1 startup-friendly country globally. Latvia is also a regional multimodal transportation hub, maintains a highly competitive tax system and has a highly educated and multilingual workforce.

The Latvian Investment and Development Agency (LIAA) together with the Latvian American Chamber of Commerce (LACC) invites interested persons to a presentation and reception regarding investment and cooperation opportunities with Latvia. This event seeks to strengthen the economic cooperation with the Latvian diaspora located all over the world. The event will include an address by Krišjānis Kariņš, Prime Minister of the Republic of Latvia, and a presentation by the Director General of LIAA, Kaspars Rožkalns.  A cocktail reception will take place following the presentations and prior to the Welcome Concert. Admission is by invitation, but a limited number of public seats are available. To attend, please RSVP prior to June 10, 2022, to Dean Ramos (LACC).

DOCUMENTARY FILM "VALIANT!"

Thursday, June 30, 2022 & Saturday, July 2, 2022

10:00-11:30

Landmark Center | Weyerhaeuser Auditorium

Presentation Language: Latvian with English subtitles

The feature documentary “Valiant!” centers on the activities of the 1980s’ North American Latvian youth protesting Soviet occupation of Latvia and the Baltic States during the last years of the Cold War. From chaining themselves to the Russian Embassy, to organizing the “Freedom” cruise along the maritime border of the Soviet Baltic states – they were focused on maintaining the plight of the Baltic States in the world’s eye.  The main hero is Juris Bļodnieks’ old Chrysler Valiant “Slant Six” automobile – painted with anti-Soviet slogans and stored under a tarp for the last 25 years. A generation of U.S. Latvians remembers the car appearing in demonstrations across North America.

This documentary is directed by Latvian American Māra Pelēce of Minneapolis, who for more than 20 years has worked as a documentary film director, creating documentaries about Latvians in exile:  “Between Latvias”, “Let’s Meet in Gaŗezers!”, and the series of short films “Trimda Dimd”. Latvian-Australian Marianna Auliciems is the producer and co-scriptwriter for the documentary and is the director of the “Latvians Abroad – Museum and Research Centre”.
